DUBAI – The UAE has announced higher petrol and diesel prices for September 2026, extending the upward movement seen in August.

All three petrol grades will increase by Dh0.20 per litre, while diesel will record a sharper Dh0.50 rise. The revised prices will take effect across the UAE from September 1.

The latest increase follows a brief decline in July, when fuel prices fell after four consecutive months of rises linked to the regional conflict and disruption around the Strait of Hormuz. Prices then edged higher again in August, with September bringing another round of increases.

New rates

Super 98 petrol will cost Dh3.80 per litre in September, compared with Dh3.60 in August. Special 95 will rise to Dh3.69 from Dh3.49, while E-Plus 91 will increase to Dh3.61 per litre from Dh3.41.

The biggest monthly increase will be seen in diesel, which will climb from Dh3.80 to Dh4.30 per litre.

The UAE Fuel Price Committee reviews retail fuel rates each month, with adjustments reflecting movements in global energy markets.

Regional tensions

Retail fuel prices in the UAE have risen by more than 60 per cent since the outbreak of the Middle East war on February 28. The decline recorded in July briefly interrupted that trend, before prices moved higher again in August and September.

The latest increase comes as uncertainty continues to weigh on regional energy markets. The 60-day ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran has expired, with Washington indicating it does not intend to extend the arrangement, while Tehran has threatened further escalation.

At the same time, Houthi attacks on oil infrastructure in the Red Sea have added another layer of pressure to regional energy security.
